Cottonwood leaves blowing through the graveyard
Twilight over where we hung em high
See the red line cutting the horizon
Pretty young things left wondering why
With my Colt .45
And a blood moon on your mile
It’s a long walk towards your benediction
When you play the liar
I will take what is mine
And nothing will be saved
Ghosts and I go hand in hand
And two step on your grave
I build empires rising from the blood dust
Ain’t nothing ever felt so sweet
If my spine is the blade of a mountain
Then I left my old heart at the bottom of a creek
Hear the wolves then the wind
Then the aching bones within
A few high notes on piano keys
Then darkness once again
Raise your fists to the sky
Let your thin wrists be your guide
Now that we’re alone out here
Sit with me awhile
And we’ll talk of what is old
And every story told
All good things begin and end
With wolves first then the wind

I Saw the Devil
04:11
|
|||
Lonely the road
Empty the space
It is dark like my name
You spoke of gasoline
Of highways and loose change
and long forgotten things
And you said have a drink cause it’s on me
Come out back and we’ll throw some dice
I’ll bring you all the women you could want
I’ll teach you how to play a mean old slide
I saw the Devil
In the desert in a diner
Flicking a Zippo light
Eyes as black as coal country
Then he drove off into the night
Then there was loud thunder in the sky
and I was evil and unkind
And I spent many years
With fire in my veins
and my teeth shining white
Well it was somewhere out there west of Amarillo
He was hitching for a ride
He said son it’s been years since I’ve seen you
And you’re looking a little tired
I saw the Devil
Tip his Stetson and the ashes fell like fireflies from his brim
He left me on the road and his megawatt smile
Was the last that I saw of him
Bring me down
Down down down
Bring me down

Summertime Money
02:46

Something sure strange about that summertime money
Got people walking sideways looking at you funny
Never meant harm I'm just here for fun
Tobacco colored creek in the summer sun
Bought some Johnny Cash with that summertime money
It was cash well spent cause I think it made her love me
But all of that was such a long time ago
Before the taxes and the cars
The shoes and the clothes
It's half past midnight
And a quarter to summer
It's a funny thing ain't it that we left behind
Come on now the honky tonk's closing
Been hanging round here since quarter to 5
Well it looks like I've made all the summertime money
The years have gone by and I feel things just ain't as sunny
Bought my share of trouble and some broken hearts
Coming on back before it all falls apart
It's a beautiful night to have something to die for
It's been a long time since I've felt so alive
I may have been broke but you bet I was free
The whiskey and the river were so priceless to me
It's half past midnight
And a quarter to summer
It's a funny thing ain't it that we left behind
Come on now the honky tonk's open
They're playing Elvis on the jukebox tonight

Valentine
02:54
|
|
||
Lay your hands on me
Valentine Valentine
Angel bow your head
Cause there i go again
It’s only the sky above me
And the land beneath my feet
Every time I wake up
I got six things on my mind
And I got six more in the chamber
And at six I raise some Hell
Voices just like rain
Upon the wet streets where I lay
They oughta pour me down the gutter
Valentine Valentine
It’s only the sky above me
And the land beneath my feet (come back alone)
I’m not who you think I am (and don’t be scared)
I’m not (I only want the best for you)
